One of the common skincare myths that Good Beauté is always cracking down on is that melanated skin doesn’t require the same level of care as other skin types. That is wrong! Our skin may require special attention to keep it glowing and healthy. People with melanated skin run the same risks for cancer and other skin issues as everyone else. It is up to us to be informed on just how to protect our melanin.
I always recommend doing monthly body scans. Take a mirror or ask a trusted person to scan your body from head to toe and look for any abnormal lumps, moles or skin discolorations. If you happen to find a distinctive mark on your skin, follow the A,B,C’s of skincare (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving) and monitor its behavior as closely as possible. While these moles and discolorations are sometimes harmless, there are times where these may indicate a more severe issue like melanoma. The only way to be sure about your skin health is to monitor the area and see a doctor.
Recently I found what I thought was a hair bump on the right side of my face in my hairline. The first thing I did was shave my hair around the area and I watched it closely for a month. I check on my mystery bump like it was my first post on Instagram. After a week a so, I realize it wasn't a hair bump. It started to become uneven, and the color changed from brown to black. I immediately called my doctor to have it examined. Now you might think because of Covid 19, you are afraid to go to a hospital or doctors office. However waiting too long to get help for life-threatening conditions can be more dangerous than infection from coronavirus. I recommend that you call your Doctor to see if he/she can do a virtual appointment first. As for me, my Doctor advised me to come in to the office to have my mystery mole removed!

Your Melanin is beautiful, but it will not protect you from Melanoma Cancer.
Good black might not crack, but it can get skin cancer! The Vita C Moisturizer with SPF 50 protects against damage from UVA and UVB exposure. Protecting your skin from the sun is mandatory to maintain clear skin, minimize hyperpigmentation, and protect against sun damage and premature aging. Far too often, we with Melanin enriched skin forget that we are not invincible while we maybe magic, going out without sunscreen puts us at risk for damaging our physical part of our skin and dangerous cancers like melanoma! So your melanin needs to be nurtured and protected at all costs.
